Public Transport

From Canberra City Centre, take the light rail (Line 1) to Gungahlin Place. From Gungahlin Place, transfer to bus route 24 towards Nicholls. Alight at the Kelleway Av after Lexcen Av stop, a short walk from Gold Creek Village and the aviary. The combined journey takes approximately 1 hour and costs around $4 - $9.

From Canberra City Centre, head north along the Barton Highway. Turn onto O'Hanlon Place in Nicholls, where Gold Creek Village and the Canberra Walk-In Aviary are located. Parking is available in Gold Creek Village. The drive takes approximately 20 minutes. Parking is free.

Overview

The Canberra Walk-In Aviary offers a rare opportunity to step into the world of birds. Unlike traditional aviaries, here you walk among nearly 600 birds from Australia and around the world. The 1,000 square metre aviary is filled with lush plants, trees, and water features, creating a natural environment for its inhabitants. Visitors receive a small plate of bird food upon entry, which encourages the birds to interact directly with you. It's common for parrots, finches and doves to land on your hand or shoulder for a snack, offering incredible photo opportunities and personal encounters. The aviary is home to over 250 parrots and 350 finches, representing nearly 60 different species. The Canberra Walk-In Aviary is located in Gold Creek Village, approximately 20 minutes from Canberra's city centre. It's a popular destination for families, bird enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a peaceful and unique experience. With its wheelchair and pram-friendly access, the aviary ensures everyone can enjoy the beauty and wonder of the avian world.
