    Wambina Nature Reserve is accessible via car. From Gosford, take the Central Coast Highway and follow signs to Matcham. Continue onto Matcham Road. Limited parking is available near the management trail entrance at the end of Matcham Road. Be aware that Matcham Road is a residential area, so please drive and park respectfully. Parking is free.

  • Public Transport

    While public transport options directly to Wambina Nature Reserve are limited, you can take a bus to a nearby location like Matcham and then walk or take a short taxi ride to the reserve. From Gosford Station, take Bus 21, 22 or 23 towards Erina Fair. From Erina Fair, a taxi or ride-share service to the end of Matcham Road will cost approximately $20 - $30. Bus fare is around $2.80 - $4.00.

Wambina Nature Reserve, established in 1997, protects 59 hectares of diverse ecosystems at the headwaters of Erina Creek, approximately 10 kilometers east-north-east of Gosford. The reserve's varied habitats range from rainforest gullies to wooded ridges and open forests, creating a haven for a wide array of flora and fauna.The reserve is home to several vulnerable animal species, including the powerful owl, yellow-bellied glider, and greater broad-nosed bat. Birdwatchers can spot various species such as the green catbird, satin bowerbird, and regent bowerbird. The reserve also boasts diverse plant life, including warm temperate rainforest with subtropical elements, and open forests of blackbutt, spotted gum, and Sydney blue gum. Notably, it was once home to the largest grey-headed flying-fox colony on the Central Coast.While there are no formal walking tracks within the reserve, a management trail provides access, starting from the end of Matcham Road. However, access to the sensitive rainforest gully is generally discouraged to protect the delicate ecosystem. Visitors can enjoy filtered views from the ridge paths, including glimpses of Tuggerah Lakes to the north.Matcham Holgate Landcare has been actively involved in restoration work within the reserve for over a decade, combating weed invasions to maintain the integrity of this natural area.
