Discover more about The Pyramid

The Pyramid is one of Girraween National Park's most iconic features, a massive granite dome that offers a challenging and rewarding hiking experience. Located near the Queensland-New South Wales border, about 260km southwest of Brisbane, the park is known for its dramatic landscape of granite outcrops, precariously balanced boulders, and diverse flora and fauna. The hike to the summit of The Pyramid is a steep, 3.6km return journey that requires scrambling over exposed granite surfaces. While challenging, the panoramic views from the top are well worth the effort, encompassing Balancing Rock, the Second Pyramid, Castle Rock, Mount Norman, and the surrounding forests. Shoes with good grip are essential, and the climb is not recommended in wet conditions due to the slippery nature of the granite. Girraween, meaning 'place of flowers', lives up to its name in spring when wildflowers bloom, adding splashes of color to the granite landscape. The park is also home to diverse wildlife, including wallabies, kangaroos, possums, echidnas, and various bird species. Camping is available within the park, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the natural beauty of this unique destination.
