Gippsland Armed Forces Museum: A Tribute to Local Military Heritage

The Gippsland Armed Forces Museum is a regional military museum dedicated to researching, educating, and exhibiting the role that the men and women of Gippsland have played in defending Australia. Established in 2000 and opened in December 2003, the museum is a non-profit organization accredited with Museums Australia. The museum's collection includes military service memorabilia from 1885 to the present, with items ranging from personal effects to weapons from Gallipoli, France, and Belgium. Visitors can explore a diverse range of artifacts, including art, film, heraldry, photographs, and technology. The museum also features a research library where visitors can delve into family histories, books, and logs. The Gippsland Armed Forces Museum is located at the West Sale Aerodrome in Fulham, next to the TAFE campus. The location is fitting, as the aerodrome was the original East Sale RAAF base during WWII. The museum is run by volunteers, and new volunteers are always welcome.
