Discover more about Kings Canyon Carpark

Kings Canyon Carpark is the launching point for exploring the awe-inspiring Kings Canyon and Watarrka National Park. Located in the heart of Australia's Northern Territory, about 450 kilometers southwest of Alice Springs and 300 kilometers northeast of Uluru, this carpark provides access to one of the country's most dramatic landscapes. Watarrka National Park has been home to the Luritja Aboriginal people for over 20,000 years. The park is jointly managed by the Traditional Owners and the Northern Territory government. The park's ancient red rock faces, soaring cliffs, and dense palm forests create a refuge for over 600 species of native plants and animals. From the carpark, several trails lead into the canyon. The most famous is the Kings Canyon Rim Walk, a 6-kilometer loop that ascends to the canyon's rim, offering panoramic views of the surrounding desert and the unique rock formations of the Lost City. A descent into the Garden of Eden, a lush oasis with a permanent waterhole, provides a welcome respite. For an easier option, the Kings Creek Walk follows the canyon floor between the towering walls, leading to a viewing platform. The Giles Track, a more challenging 22-kilometer trek, stretches between Kings Canyon and Kathleen Springs. The carpark offers essential facilities such as public toilets, drinking water, picnic areas, and information signs. It's the only place in the immediate area where pets are allowed on a leash.
