    Discover more about Edinburgh Gardens

Edinburgh Gardens, located in the inner Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy North, is a sprawling 24-hectare (59-acre) park offering a green oasis for recreation and relaxation. Bounded by Brunswick Street and St Georges Road, and Alfred Crescent, the gardens provide a picturesque escape from the bustling city. Created in March 1862 from a grant of land by Queen Victoria, the gardens were laid out by Clement Hodgkinson, who also designed many of Melbourne's other parks. The park's unusual shape results from the integration of different street grids, reflecting a desire to create a grand crescent with gardens and recreational facilities. Throughout its history, Edinburgh Gardens has been a hub for community activity and organized sports. The Collingwood Commercial Cricket Club was one of the first sporting organizations to establish itself here, a tradition that continues today. The park was named around 1872 in commemoration of Prince Alfred, the Duke of Edinburgh. Over the years, the gardens have been redeveloped with additional sporting, ornamental, and memorial structures. Today, visitors can enjoy a wide range of facilities, including sports fields, tennis courts, lawn bowls, a basketball court, a skate park, and playgrounds. The park also features a heritage rotunda, picnic and barbecue areas, and table tennis. Approximately half of the park is designated as a dog off-leash area. Edinburgh Gardens is wheelchair accessible, with accessible toilets and parking.
