Getting There

• Car

  From Byron Bay, take the Pacific Highway (M1) north towards Ballina. Continue on the M1 for approximately 30 minutes. Take the exit toward Bruxner Highway (B62) and continue following the signs for Lismore. After about 20 minutes, keep left to stay on Bruxner Highway and follow signs for Richmond River. You can access the river at various points along its banks, particularly at Lismore which is a good central location.

• Public Transportation

  From Byron Bay, catch a bus to Ballina via the local bus service (around AUD 10). Once in Ballina, transfer to a bus heading to Lismore (approximately AUD 5). The journey will take around 1 hour, depending on connections. Once you arrive in Lismore, you can walk to the Richmond River, which is located nearby.

• Bicycle

  If you are feeling adventurous, you can bike from Byron Bay to Lismore, which is about 30 km. Follow the coastal bike paths to reach the Pacific Highway and then head towards Lismore. Ensure you have appropriate gear and a map, as the route includes some busy roads. Lock up your bike in Lismore and enjoy the Richmond River area.

  If you prefer a more direct route, consider booking a taxi or using a rideshare app (like Uber) from your location in Northern Rivers directly to Richmond River. The cost will vary depending on your starting point, but it can range from AUD 50 to AUD 80. This is a convenient option if you are traveling in a group or with luggage.
