Discovering the Marvels of Great Barrier Reef Drive

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting at the main street of Port Douglas, Macrossan Street, walk towards the beachfront. Head towards the end of Macrossan Street and turn left onto the Four Mile Beach. Continue walking along the beach until you reach the northern end where Four Mile Beach meets Captain Cook Hwy. From there, you will see the entrance to Great Barrier Reef Drive right in front of you. It is about a 30-minute walk from the center of Port Douglas.

• Bicycle

  You can rent a bicycle from one of the local shops on Macrossan Street. Once you have your bike, head north on Macrossan Street until you reach the end of the street, then turn left onto the Captain Cook Hwy. Continue cycling for about 5 minutes, and you will see the entrance to Great Barrier Reef Drive. The ride is about 2 kilometers and takes approximately 10-15 minutes.

• Public Bus

  You can take the local bus service from Port Douglas to get to Great Barrier Reef Drive. Look for the bus stop on Macrossan Street. Check the local timetable for the bus heading towards Mossman. Get off at the stop closest to Captain Cook Hwy, which is about a 5-minute ride. From the bus stop, it’s a short walk to the entrance of Great Barrier Reef Drive.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a quicker option, you can call a local taxi service from anywhere in Port Douglas. Simply mention that you would like to go to Great Barrier Reef Drive at Captain Cook Hwy. The taxi will pick you up from your location and drop you off right at the entrance. This is a convenient option, especially if you are traveling with luggage or in a group.
