Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Melbourne. Take the M1 highway (Princes Freeway) towards Geelong. Continue on the M1 until you reach the exit for the Great Ocean Road (B100) near Geelong. Follow the Great Ocean Road, which will lead you through picturesque coastal towns. Once you arrive in Apollo Bay, follow the signs to Great Ocean Walk, located at 100 Great Ocean Rd, Apollo Bay VIC 3233. The total drive is approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes from Melbourne, depending on traffic.
Public Transportation
To reach Great Ocean Walk using public transportation, take a train from Melbourne to Geelong. From Geelong, transfer to a V/Line bus heading towards Apollo Bay. The bus will take you directly to Apollo Bay, where you can disembark. Check the V/Line website for the latest schedules and ticket prices. The bus journey from Geelong to Apollo Bay takes around 2 hours, and ticket prices may vary, so it’s advisable to book in advance.
Walking
Once in Apollo Bay, the Great Ocean Walk starts at the Apollo Bay Information Centre. From there, you can choose to walk sections of the trail. Ensure you have appropriate hiking gear and check the weather before heading out. The walk is well-marked, but if you wish to explore further, consider guided tours that may offer transportation to different sections of the walk.
