Car
If you're driving in the Dachstein Mountains, head towards the town of Obertraun. From Salzburg, take the A1 motorway and follow signs for A10 towards Villach. Exit at Golling and follow the B162 to Bad Aussee and then the B145 to Obertraun. Once in Obertraun, follow signs to Winkl 34, which is where the Dachsteinhöhlen are located. There is parking available nearby, and you may incur a parking fee, typically around €5 for the day.
Public Transportation
To reach Dachsteinhöhlen via public transport, start your journey from Salzburg main train station. Take a train towards Attnang-Puchheim, and then switch to a regional train towards Obertraun. The whole journey takes approximately 2-2.5 hours. Once you arrive at Obertraun, you can either walk or take a taxi to Winkl 34. The walk is about 30 minutes from the train station, so consider your time if you have scheduled cave tours.
Walking
If you are already in Obertraun, walking to the Dachsteinhöhlen is a beautiful option. Start from the Obertraun train station and head towards Winkl 34. Follow the signs leading to the caves, which will take you along scenic paths. The walk is approximately 1.5 km and takes about 20-30 minutes. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, and be prepared for some uphill walking.

If you prefer a more direct route from Obertraun, consider taking a taxi. Taxis are available at the train station and can take you directly to Winkl 34. The taxi ride will take about 5-10 minutes and typically costs around €10-15, depending on traffic.
