Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving to Hoher Dachstein, start from the town of Schladming. Head east on B320 towards Ramsau am Dachstein. Follow B320 for approximately 12 km until you reach the junction for L726. Turn left onto L726, which will take you directly toward the Dachstein Glacier area. Continue on this road until you reach the parking area at the Dachstein Glacier cable car station. Parking here may incur a fee (around €5-€10 depending on the season). From the cable car station, you can purchase a ticket for the gondola that will take you up to Hoher Dachstein.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a train to Schladming from major cities like Salzburg or Innsbruck. Once in Schladming, transfer to bus line 180 towards Ramsau am Dachstein. Get off at the stop 'Dachsteinbahn' which is the cable car station. The bus ride takes about 30 minutes and costs around €4-€6. At the Dachsteinbahn station, buy a ticket for the cable car which will take you up to Hoher Dachstein. Ensure to check the bus schedules as they can vary, especially on weekends and holidays.

  If you are adventurous and prefer hiking, you can start from the Ramsau area. There are several marked trails leading up to Hoher Dachstein, which can take approximately 5-7 hours depending on your pace. Ensure you have proper hiking gear, and check the weather conditions beforehand. It's recommended to have a map of the trails or a GPS device for navigation. No additional costs are incurred for hiking, but it's essential to prepare adequately with food and water.
