If you are in the main square of Hallstatt, start by facing the lake. From the square, walk towards the lakefront and take a left towards the path that leads to the Friedhof (Cemetery). Continue along this path, following the signs towards Friedhof. You will pass some beautiful views of the lake and mountains. Once you reach the Friedhof, Churnel House is located within the cemetery area. Look for the distinctive chapel structure that stands out among the gravestones.
Public Transport
While there is no direct public transport to Churnel House from inside Hallstatt due to its compact size, if you are coming from nearby towns like Obertraun, you can take a train to Hallstatt Bahnhof. From the station, follow the walking instructions as described above. The train ride is scenic and takes about 10 minutes, after which you will walk approximately 15 minutes to reach Churnel House.
