Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from the Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (main train station), exit the station and head west on Gleisstraße. Continue straight onto Rainerstraße, which will lead you to the Mirabell Gardens. Walk through the gardens and exit onto Mirabellplatz. From there, you can see the Hohensalzburg Fortress in the distance. Continue straight onto the pedestrian zone, Getreidegasse, and follow it until you reach the intersection with Alter Markt. Turn left at Alter Markt, and you will soon arrive at Residenzplatz, which is directly ahead.

  • Bus

    If you prefer to take public transport, go to the nearest bus stop to your location. Board Bus number 3 or 5 towards 'Salzburg Mirabellplatz'. Get off at the 'Residenzplatz' stop. From there, you will see the large open square directly in front of you, which is Residenzplatz. It’s a short walk from the bus stop.

    If you are near the Festival Hall (Festspielhaus), exit the building and head south towards the Salzach River. Walk along the riverbank towards the east until you reach the Makartsteg pedestrian bridge. Cross the bridge and continue straight, then turn right onto Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz. Walk towards the courtyard of the Residenza where you will find Residenzplatz right in front of you.
