Discover more about Mozartsteg

The Mozartsteg, or Mozart Bridge, is a charming Art Nouveau footbridge that graces the city center of Salzburg. Spanning the Salzach River, it links the Steingasse/Imbergstraße area with Rudolfskai/Mozartplatz. Constructed in 1903, the bridge was the brainchild of a café owner, Georg Krimml, who sought to attract more customers to his establishment, Café Corso. Initially a private toll bridge, pedestrians had to pay a fee to cross. In 1921, the city of Salzburg acquired the Mozartsteg, eliminating the toll and opening it to the public. The former toll booth still stands and now houses a small shop. The bridge gained international recognition after being featured in the Hollywood movie 'The Sound of Music'. Maria and the Von Trapp children crossed this bridge in one of the movie's memorable scenes. The Mozartsteg offers stunning views of the Hohensalzburg Fortress and the surrounding landscapes. Its central location makes it a convenient and picturesque shortcut for pedestrians exploring Salzburg. The bridge's elegant curves and delicate latticework make it a popular spot for photographers and those seeking a peaceful escape from the city's bustling streets.
