Mönchsberg Elevator: A Scenic Lift to Breathtaking Views

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from the Salzburg Cathedral, exit the cathedral square and head southwest on Domplatz toward Residenzplatz. Continue onto Kaigasse and then take a right onto Gstättengasse. Follow Gstättengasse until you reach the Mönchsberg Elevator located at Gstättengasse 13. The elevator is a short walk from the city center and is well signposted.

• Public Transport

  From Salzburg main train station (Hauptbahnhof), take bus number 3 or 5 towards 'Salzburg Mirabellplatz'. Get off at the 'Gstättengasse' stop. After exiting the bus, walk along Gstättengasse, and you will soon see the Mönchsberg Elevator. This option is convenient if you prefer not to walk too far.

• Walking

  If you are near Mirabell Palace, exit the palace gardens and walk towards the bridge (Makartsteg). Cross the Salzach River and continue straight on Müllner Hauptstraße. Turn left onto Gstättengasse, and you’ll find the Mönchsberg Elevator at Gstättengasse 13. This scenic route offers views of the river and the surrounding area.

• Walking

  From Getreidegasse, the famous shopping street, walk towards the end of the street and take a left onto Judengasse. Continue straight until you reach the Salzach River, then turn right and walk along the riverbank to Gstättengasse. Follow Gstättengasse to reach the Mönchsberg Elevator. This route is lively and gives you a taste of Salzburg’s vibrant atmosphere.
