Getting There

  • Walking

    From Mirabell Palace, walk towards the Mirabell Gardens and exit onto Makartsteg (the bridge) over the Salzach River. Cross the bridge and continue straight to the Old Town. Once in the Old Town, follow the signs towards Festung Hohensalzburg. You will walk through Kapitelplatz, where you can see the Cathedral. Continue walking up the hill where you will find the entrance to the fortress.

    Take bus number 25 from the Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and get off at the stop 'Festungsbahn'. From there, you will see the funicular railway that takes you directly to Fortress Hohensalzburg. The ticket for the funicular can be purchased at the station.
