The walk to the Dachstein Shark takes approximately 30-45 minutes. The trail is generally easy and suitable for families. The Dachstein Shark itself is free to visit.
Public Transport
From Obertraun Dachsteinhöhlen train station, take the bus towards Obertraun and get off at the Winkl stop. From there, it is a short walk to Winkl 34, where the Dachstein Shark is located. Alternatively, take a direct bus to Obertraun from nearby towns such as Hallstatt. Bus schedules vary, so check in advance. A single bus fare is approximately €2-4. From the Winkl bus stop, follow the signs to the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car valley station. Purchase a cable car ticket to the Krippenstein mountain station. In 2025, the Panorama Ticket costs around €43.20. From the mountain station, follow the walking directions.
Car
From the center of the Dachstein region, use the B166 road towards Obertraun. Continue on B166 for about 10 kilometers until you reach Obertraun. Once in Obertraun, look for signs directing you to Winkl and turn onto Winkl 34, where the Dachstein Shark is located. Parking is available near the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car valley station for €5 per day. From the parking area, purchase a cable car ticket to the Krippenstein mountain station. In 2025, the Panorama Ticket costs around €43.20. From the mountain station, follow the walking directions.
