Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Türlwandhütte (Dachstein cable car top station), follow the well-marked trail towards the Austriahütte. The walk is relatively easy and takes approximately 30 minutes. Alternatively, from Gasthof Edelbrunn, hike along the forestry road, passing Dachsteinhaus and Brandalm, for approximately 60 minutes to reach the Austriahütte. A more strenuous route from Edelbrunn is via the Roseggersteig.

  • Public Transport

    Take bus line 900, 901, or 960 to the "Türlwandhütte" stop. From there, it's a 20-minute (1.3 km) walk to the Austriahütte. Bus tickets can be purchased on board; a single fare from Schladming to Türlwandhütte costs approximately €6-8. Note that during the off-season, buses may only run as far as Dachsteinstraße.

  • Taxi

    From Ramsau am Dachstein, a taxi to the Türlwandhütte (Dachstein cable car valley station) is the most direct option. From there, follow walking directions. Expect to pay around €25-35 for the taxi ride. Alternatively, a taxi from Schladming to the Türlwandhütte will cost approximately €40-50.

  • Driving

    From Schladming, drive towards Ramsau am Dachstein. Continue past Ramsau on the Dachsteinstraße, following signs for the Dachstein cable car. Be prepared for a toll road (€20) leading to the Türlwandhütte parking lot. From the parking lot, it is a 30 minute walk to the Austriahütte. Parking at Türlwandhütte is available.

The Mountaineer Memorial at the Brandalm and the Dachstein chapel are located nearby. The museum is open from late May to mid-October, typically from 10:00 to 17:00. Admission is free with the Sommercard.
