Getting there

Public Transport

To reach Gjaidstein using public transport, begin at Schladming train station and take bus 960 towards Ramsau. Alight at the 'Ski-Willy/Rittislift' stop in Schildlehen. From there, follow signs to the Dachstein cable car valley station. Purchase a cable car ticket, which also covers the toll road access. The bus journey costs approximately $7, and the cable car ticket varies depending on the season.

Car

If driving, navigate to Schildlehen 83, 8972 Ramsau am Dachstein. From Schladming, follow the Ramsauer Straße towards Ramsau, continuing through Ramsau Kulm and Ramsau Ort towards Rittisberg. Park at the Ski-Willy Schildlehen parking lot. Proceed to the Dachstein cable car valley station. Note that a toll fee applies for the Dachstein toll road, but it is waived upon presentation of a valid cable car ticket. Parking is available at the base of the cable car, but availability may be limited during peak season.

Walking

From the Dachstein cable car mountain station, a short hike across the glacier leads to the entry point of Gjaidstein. Pass the mountain rescue hut to reach the start of the secured climbing path. This initial segment involves descending briefly and walking across the glacier directly towards Gjaidstein. Ensure you have appropriate footwear and glacier gear if necessary.
