    Discover more about Schlossberglift Graz

The Schlossberglift provides a unique and rapid ascent to the summit of Graz's Schlossberg. Inaugurated in 2000, the lift was built to improve access to the Schlossberg in time for Graz's designation as the European Capital of Culture in 2003. The lift connects Schlossbergplatz at the foot of the hill to a point near the iconic Uhrturm in just 30 seconds. The experience is more than just a means of transportation; the glass-encased cabins offer passengers views of the illuminated interior of the mountain as they ascend. The lift has two intermediate stops, providing access to the Dom im Berg (a venue inside the mountain, only open during events) and the Clock Tower Casemates. The Schlossberg itself is a historically significant site, having been fortified since at least the 10th century. Although the fortress was largely demolished by Napoleonic forces in the early 19th century, the Uhrturm and Glockenturm (bell tower) were spared. Today, the Schlossberg is a public park offering panoramic views of Graz, several entertainment venues, cafes, and restaurants. Other attractions include the Kasemattenbühne (an open-air stage), the Türkenbrunnen (a historic cistern), and the world's tallest underground slide.
