Schloss Ort is located on an island in Lake Traunsee and is accessible via a 123-meter wooden bridge from the mainland. From the town center of Gmunden, walk along the esplanade towards Toscana Park. The bridge to Schloss Ort is located at the end of the park. There is no cost to walk across the bridge and enter the castle courtyard.

Schloss Ort, also known as Schloss Orth, is an Austrian castle situated on the Traunsee lake in Gmunden. Founded around 1080 by Hartnidus of Ort, it stands as one of Austria's oldest castles. Originally a defensive structure, it has undergone numerous renovations, showcasing Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architectural elements.The castle's strategic location on Lake Traun has been vital for trade and defense throughout its history. In 1344, it was purchased by the Wallsee brothers, marking its transformation into a noble residence. The castle has changed hands numerous times, eventually becoming a favored possession of the Habsburgs in 1483. Today, Schloss Ort is owned by the city of Gmunden and is open to the public.Visitors can explore the romantic courtyard, admire the double-story arcades, and walk the late Gothic staircase. The Seeschloss houses a chapel dedicated to St. James the Elder, constructed in 1634, and a museum showcasing the region's rich history. The castle gained fame as the filming location for the popular Austrian-German television series “Schlosshotel Orth,” which aired from 1996 to 2004.Schloss Ort is not just a historical site; it's a vibrant venue for events and celebrations. The castle hosts numerous concerts, readings, and cultural events throughout the year and is a popular wedding destination.
