Discover more about Steine der Erinnerung in Liesing - Sidonie und Hedy Blum

The Steine der Erinnerung (Stones of Remembrance) for Sidonie and Hedy Blum are located on Breitenfurter Straße in Vienna's 23rd district, Liesing. These stones are more than just brass plaques; they are powerful symbols of remembrance and a stark reminder of the human cost of the Holocaust. These memorials commemorate Sidonie and Hedy Blum, who were victims of Nazi persecution. Hedy Blum, not yet 11 years old, was deported to Maly Trostinec on August 17, 1942, and murdered upon arrival on August 21, 1942. These stones are part of a larger project in Vienna-Liesing, with 76 stones and 5 plaques placed to remember 272 people murdered by the Nazi regime. The Steine der Erinnerung project is inspired by Gunter Demnig's Stolpersteine, but differs in size, the ability to commemorate multiple people on one stone, and the use of machine-made rather than handmade stones. The stones serve as a reminder of the individuals who lived in Liesing and were victims of the Nazi regime.
