Discover more about Adolf Rhomberg House

The Adolf Rhomberg House, prominently situated at Marktstraße 26 in Dornbirn, stands as a testament to the city's past and architectural transformations. Constructed between 1798 and 1799 for textile manufacturer Marx Alois Luger, the building was designed by Sigmund Hilbe, who also designed the church in Haselstauden. This initial construction reflected the architectural style of the late 18th century. In 1834, Eduard Rhomberg acquired the house. His son, Adolf Rhomberg, who later served as the Governor of Vorarlberg from 1890 to 1918, lent his name to the building. A significant redesign in 1900, led by Jugendstil architect Hanns Kornberger, gave the house its current ornate facade. The Jugendstil elements, characterized by flowing lines and decorative motifs, contrast with the building's earlier design. The facade features symmetrical detailing around the windows and roofline, with an entrance porch supported by columns and floral designs adorning the underside of the roof. The roof gable on the third floor is a notable example of Jugendstil architecture. Inside, the entrance hall showcases a vaulted ceiling and old parquet flooring. From 1987 to 1990, the Guild of the Vorarlberger Building Industry renovated the house. Today, the Adolf Rhomberg House is privately owned, and Kunst-raum Dornbirn utilizes it for exhibitions and courses. Its location on Marktstraße places it near other historical buildings, such as the Red House and the parish church of St. Martin.
