Car
If driving from the Wachau region, follow the B3 towards Aggsbach Dorf. In Aggsbach Dorf, turn towards Maria Langegg and follow the signs to Burgruine Aggstein. The road leading up to the castle is accessible by car. There is ample free parking available directly in front of the castle entrance. Note that access for tour buses is currently only possible via Bergern/Krems.
Public Transport
To reach Aggstein Castle via public transport, take a train to Melk or Krems. From either station, take VOR bus line 720 to Aggstein. From the 'Aggstein Süd' bus stop, it's approximately a 2 km walk uphill (around 300 meters elevation gain) through the Herrenwald forest to the castle ruins. A single bus fare within the region typically costs around €2-4.
Walking
If you are in Aggsbach Markt, a well-marked hiking path leads directly to Burgruine Aggstein. The hike takes approximately 30 minutes from the parking area in Aggsbach Markt. Follow signs for Wanderweg Burgruine Aggstein. Be prepared for an uphill climb.
