In the second half of the 13th century, a more substantial church was constructed, forming what is now the southern aisle of the present structure. Over the centuries, the church underwent numerous expansions and renovations, reflecting changing architectural styles and the evolving needs of the community. The most significant addition came in 1502 with the construction of the massive northwest tower. In the early 16th century, the church and charnel house were surrounded by a defensive wall, reinforced with towers. The wall was heightened around 1530 to protect against Turkish invasions.Inside, visitors can admire the black-and-gold high altar with its painting of the Assumption of Mary.
