Nestled on a small peninsula within the breathtaking Obernberger See in Tyrol, Austria, the Seekapelle Maria am See (St. Mary on the Lake Chapel) offers a serene escape. This idyllic location harmonizes natural splendor with spiritual tranquility, making it a must-see destination. The chapel's history is intertwined with the geological events that shaped the landscape. In 1934, a significant rockslide from the Tribulaun mountains created the peninsula upon which the Seekapelle now stands. Construction of the chapel was completed in 1935. The chapel is accessible via a quaint wooden bridge. The architecture features a central, domed structure connected to a square vestibule that serves as the entrance. The interior of the dome is adorned with a fresco depicting the Coronation of Mary, painted in 1938 by Carl Rieder. The fresco portrays Mary surrounded by a circle of angels. Frescoes of four saints adorn the corners of the central building: Saint Joseph, Saint Anne, Saint Barbara, and Saint Francis of Sales. Visiting the Seekapelle is particularly enchanting in autumn, when the surrounding larch trees transform into vibrant colors.
