Driving
To reach Schlegeis Stausee by car, navigate to Mayrhofen in the Zillertal valley. From there, follow signs to Ginzling and then onto the Schlegeis Alpenstraße. This is a 13.3 km toll road with scenic views, hairpin bends and tunnels. The toll is approximately €17.00 for cars, payable in cash or online in advance. Parking is free at one of the lots near the reservoir. Be aware that the road is typically open from late May to mid-October, depending on weather conditions.
Public Transport
To reach Schlegeis Stausee via public transport, take bus #4102 from Mayrhofen Bahnhof (train/bus station) to the Schlegeisspeicher reservoir. The bus journey takes approximately 50 minutes. A one-way ticket costs around €10 per person, which includes the toll fee. Check the VVT (Verkehrsverbund Tirol) website for the most up-to-date schedules and ticket prices. From the bus stop at the reservoir, the dam and hiking trails are easily accessible.
