Adlerhorst Viewing Platform: Aerie in the Austrian Alps

Soar to new heights at the Adlerhorst viewing platform for breathtaking panoramic views of the Austrian Alps and Lake Achensee.

4.7

The Adlerhorst viewing platform is a must-visit destination in the Rofan Mountains, offering unparalleled views of the Achensee region. Situated at the summit of the Gschöllkopf at 2,039 meters (6,690 feet), the platform is accessible via a scenic hike from the Rofan cable car mountain station. Constructed from approximately 15 tons of metal, the Adlerhorst was designed to resemble a giant eagle's nest, blending seamlessly with its alpine surroundings. The platform's eight-meter diameter provides ample space for visitors to soak in the 360° panorama, encompassing Lake Achensee, the Karwendel mountains, the Zillertal and Tux Alps, the Hohe Tauern, and the lower Inn Valley. Benches are available on the platform, inviting visitors to relax and enjoy the scenery. The Adlerhorst is a highlight along the multi-award-winning Adlerweg (Eagle Walk) hiking route, a 413-kilometer trail that traverses the Tyrol region. The platform is only accessible during the summer months. The Rofan Mountains themselves are known for their jagged rock formations and high alpine pastures, offering a variety of hiking and climbing opportunities. To reach the Adlerhorst, most visitors take the Rofan cable car from Maurach to the mountain station. From there, a short but steep and rocky trail leads to the summit of the Gschöllkopf and the Adlerhorst. The nearby Erfurter Hütte provides a spot to enjoy refreshments with a view.
