Discover more about Muğan bağı

Muğan Bağı, also known as Muğan Garden, is a serene park nestled in the Nasimi district of Baku, offering a peaceful escape from the city's hustle. Situated conveniently near the central train station, it provides a green oasis for relaxation and leisurely strolls. In its early days, the area where Muğan Bağı now stands was a bustling fairground square. In 1922, during the Soviet era, the space was transformed into a garden named after Ilyich during community workdays. However, in 1938, it was converted into a menagerie, housing animals behind a high metal fence until 1959. Agamirza Ahmedov, the mayor of Baku at the time, relocated the animals and reshaped the area into a public garden. The transformation involved removing metal fences and redesigning the pavilion structures and walkways. The new layout emphasized a symmetrical composition, featuring a main pedestrian terrace that culminated in a water feature. The park's landscaping includes trees and shrubs typical of Baku, providing shade and greenery. In springtime, the garden bursts into color as many of its trees blossom. Over the years, Muğan Bağı has undergone several renovations to maintain its appeal. In 2001, the park was refurbished with new asphalt, benches, and a renovated fountain called "Shalale". Today, Muğan Bağı continues to be a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
