Discover more about Highland Park

Highland Park, known locally as Dağüstü Park (Upland Park), is more than just a scenic retreat; it's a unique blend of natural beauty, deep-rooted history, and modern urban development. Perched on the highest point in Baku, the park offers the most spectacular panoramic views of the city, from the shimmering Caspian Sea to the iconic Flame Towers and the ancient walls of Icherisheher (Old City). Originally known as English Park, the site served as a British military cemetery following the events of 1918. In 1935, Soviet architect Lev Ilyin transformed the area into a public park. During the Soviet era, it was named after Sergey Kirov. Post-independence, the park was reborn as Highland Park. The Alley of Martyrs (Şəhidlər Xiyabanı) is the emotional core of Highland Park. This memorial is dedicated to victims of the 1990 Soviet crackdown and the Nagorno-Karabakh War. The park's architecture reflects a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. Wide staircases and winding alleys lead visitors through tree-lined paths, cozy terraces, and open viewpoints. The park underwent a major renovation from 2011 to 2013, including modern lighting, walking paths, and landscaped gardens. Today, Highland Park is a place of reflection, pride, and community.
