Beit Al Quran, meaning 'House of Quran' in Arabic, is a distinguished multi-purpose complex dedicated to the Islamic arts, located in the Al Hoora district of Manama. Established in 1990, this institution serves as a beacon of Islamic culture, attracting scholars, art enthusiasts, and tourists from across the globe.The complex was the vision of Dr. Abdul Latif Jassim Kanoo, who sought to create a space that would preserve and promote Islamic heritage. Construction began in 1984, funded by public donations, and the museum officially opened in March 1990. Beit Al Quran has since gained recognition as one of the most renowned Islamic museums worldwide.The architecture of Beit Al Quran blends traditional Islamic design elements with modern aesthetics. The complex includes a mosque, a library, a school, an auditorium, and a museum comprising ten exhibition halls. The museum's collection showcases a diverse array of Quranic manuscripts and Islamic artifacts, representing the evolution of calligraphic traditions from the 7th century to the present day.Highlights of the collection include early Quranic manuscripts from Madinah, Iraq, North Africa, and Spain, as well as miniature Qurans readable only with optical instruments. Visitors can also marvel at Qurans inscribed on unconventional materials like parchment, grains, peas, and rice. The library houses over 50,000 books in Arabic, English, and French, covering various aspects of Islam and its cultural impact. Beit Al Quran also plays a vital role in education and research, offering guided tours, lectures, workshops, and seminars.
