Discover more about Kirtipasha Jamindar Bari

Kirtipasha Jamindar Bari stands as a remarkable testament to the historical grandeur of Bangladesh. Located in Kirtipasha Union, Rajapur Upazila, Jhalkathi District, this zamindar house was established approximately a century ago. The palace was founded by Ramjibon Sen, with later additions, including temples, by Zamindar Kirtinarayan Pasha, after whom the village is named. In the early 19th century, King Ram Sengupta of the Bikrampur zamindar clan arrived in Kirtipasha and built two houses for his sons. The eastern house, known as zamindar bari, was for the elder son, while the other was for the younger son; the latter has since been destroyed. The zamindar bari is one of the most magnificent and largest in Bangladesh, once boasting around 200 rooms. Today, the property is partially abandoned and in a dilapidated condition. While most of the buildings' walls remain, the floors and ceilings have largely disappeared. One building is in good condition and is used as a girls' high school. The estate also features the ruins of a Shiva temple, with another, well-maintained Shiva temple located on the way to the house. Despite its state of disrepair, Kirtipasha Jamindar Bari remains a significant historical and architectural site, offering visitors a glimpse into the opulence and lifestyle of Bengal's zamindars.
