The Baitul Aman Jame Masjid and Eidgah Complex, often called the Guthia Mosque, is a celebrated landmark in Barisal, Bangladesh, renowned for its architectural grandeur and serene atmosphere. The complex spans 14 acres and includes a mosque, a large Eidgah (open-air prayer ground), a graveyard, three lakes, a madrasa (religious school), and an orphanage. Construction began on December 16, 2003, and the complex was inaugurated on October 20, 2006. The project was a private initiative by Sharifuddin Ahmed Santu, a local politician and businessman, and cost 200 million BDT. Architect M. Ameenul Haque designed the complex, drawing inspiration from Islamic architectural styles from the Middle East. The mosque itself boasts 20 domes and a 58-meter high minaret, one of the tallest in Bangladesh. The inner walls feature Surat ar-Rahman, and Ayatul Kursi calligraphy adorns the mosque. The interior can accommodate 1,400 worshippers, while the exterior can hold 5,000. Thousands more can pray in the adjacent Eidgah. The three lakes surrounding the mosque reflect its image from various angles, enhancing its visual appeal, and the complex includes gardens and greenery that add to the peaceful environment. The Baitul Aman Jame Masjid is not only a place of worship but also a center for education and social activities. It provides separate prayer areas for men and women and is equipped with modern amenities. During Eid-ul-Fitr, the mosque is beautifully decorated with lights, creating a festive atmosphere.
