The museum aims to raise awareness of the need to change fishing practices to conserve and ensure the sustainability of Bangladesh's aquatic fauna. The FMBC boasts an impressive collection of riverine species from Bangladesh, with over 230 preserved species on display. Five rooms have already been renovated to include exhibits on extinct fossil and contemporary species, interactive displays, and a media room. Future plans include interactive public aquaria, research facilities, a cryogenic fish gene bank, and DNA collections. The museum can be visited on Fridays and Saturdays with prior contact (10:00-12:00 morning and 14:00 – 17:00 afternoon).
