Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Sangrahashala, also known as the Zainul Abedin Museum, stands as a tribute to one of Bangladesh's most celebrated artists. Zainul Abedin, born in Mymensingh, is revered as the father of modern art in Bangladesh. The museum, established in 1975, is located in the scenic Shaheeb Quarter Park on the banks of the Old Brahmaputra River. The museum's collection includes 53 oil paintings, 16 replicas, and 75 photographs of Zainul Abedin's life and work. The themes and subjects of the paintings largely depict rural Bengal. Visitors can also view 69 mementos, including his brushes, color palettes, and spectacles, providing a personal glimpse into the artist's life. Zainul Abedin played a crucial role in collecting and preserving neglected Bangladeshi artworks from rural areas. He established the Art Institute in Dhaka in 1948, which later became the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Dhaka. Each December, the museum organizes an anniversary program featuring discussions on Zainul's life and work, as well as painting competitions. The Bangladesh National Museum also supports the artist's legacy by issuing posters and cards of his works.
