Discover more about Dalal Bazar Jomidar Bari

Dalal Bazar Jomidar Bari, nestled in Lakshmipur, stands as a testament to the opulent lives of Bengal's zamindars. The estate, also known as Lakshmi Narayan Vaishnav Bari, was established around 400 years ago by Lakshmi Narayan Vaishnav, who came from Calcutta. His descendants became commercial agents for the East India Company, earning them the moniker 'Dalal' (agents), which led to the area being known as Dalal Bazar. The zamindari was managed by the Vaishnav family until the partition of India in 1947. The sprawling complex, covering approximately five acres, features a royal entrance arch that welcomes visitors into a world of architectural splendor. The complex includes the zamindar palace, the royal palace, the inner quarters (Andar Mahal), a bathing ghat with paved steps (Shan bandhano ghat), a Nat Mandir (dance hall), and a Puja Mandap (prayer hall). Remnants of the past, such as an iron chest, evoke a sense of history and intrigue. The architecture blends traditional Bengali and colonial styles, with elaborate facades adorned with intricate carvings and motifs. Expansive courtyards offer a serene space for contemplation. While some structures have been lost to time, the remaining architecture reflects the traditions of the era. The Department of Archeology has taken steps to preserve this historical treasure, with plans to establish the first Noakhali Archaeological Museum within the complex.
