Discover more about Ratargul Swamp Forest view Point

Ratargul Swamp Forest View Point serves as an initial introduction to the mesmerizing Ratargul Swamp Forest, a natural wonder recognized as the only freshwater swamp forest in Bangladesh. The forest spans 3,325.61 acres, with 504 acres designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 2015. The name 'Ratargul' originates from the local term for the 'Rata' or 'Pati' tree, abundant in the area. While the view point may not offer the full immersive experience of the forest itself, it allows visitors to observe the unique characteristics of this environment. During the monsoon season (typically June to October), the forest becomes submerged under 20-30 feet of water, creating a stunning landscape where trees appear to be growing directly out of the water. This phenomenon attracts tourists who come to witness the beauty of the submerged forest. Exploring the forest is best done by boat, allowing visitors to glide through the waterways and witness the diverse flora and fauna. The forest is home to over 200 species of plants and a variety of animals, including snakes, turtles, lizards, monkeys, and birds. Birdwatchers will be delighted to know that over 73 species of birds have been identified in the forest, including the Red Junglefowl and Lesser Whistling Duck. For a panoramic view of the swamp forest, visitors can climb the Ratargul Watch Tower.
