Discover more about Queen's Park

Queen's Park, situated in the northeastern part of Bridgetown, is a national park with a rich history and diverse attractions. Originally, the site was purchased in the 1780s by the British government to serve as the residence for the commanding General of the British troops in the West Indies. The main house, constructed in 1783 and later named Queen's Park House, was initially called King's House until Queen Victoria's reign. After the British troops departed in 1905, the Barbados Legislature acquired the property and, in 1909, it was opened as a park for public use. The park's design is credited to Lady Gilbert Carter, who also designed the gardens at Ilaro Court. Today, the National Conservation Commission maintains Queen's Park. Visitors to Queen's Park can explore various attractions, including the Daphne Joseph Hackett Theatre and the Queen's Park Gallery, which host exhibitions throughout the year. The park also features a bandstand with ironwork and a view of the park, a children's playground, and the historic baobab tree. This tree, estimated to be almost 1,000 years old with a circumference of 18 meters, is one of the largest trees in Barbados. Queen's Park is a popular venue for cultural and social events, including Christmas morning gatherings and the Agrofest exhibition.
