Discover more about Christ Church

Christ Church Parish Church stands as a testament to resilience and faith, having been rebuilt multiple times due to devastating natural events. The original wooden church was erected around 1629 near Dover Beach but was destroyed by a flood in 1669 that scattered coffins and bones. A second church was built on the current site, overlooking Oistins, only to be destroyed by the Great Hurricane of 1780. A third church met its end in the hurricane of 1831, and a fourth was consumed by fire in 1935. The present-day church incorporates three walls and the western tower from the previous structure. Inside, memorial ledgers recount the stories of past parishioners. However, the church's most intriguing feature is the Chase Vault, located in the churchyard. Legend has it that the coffins within the sealed vault mysteriously moved, sparking fear and speculation of supernatural forces. The coffins were eventually buried elsewhere, and the vault remains vacant today. Today, visitors can explore the church and its grounds, taking in the views of Oistins Bay and reflecting on the parish's rich history.
