St Paul's Church, or Sint-Pauluskerk, stands in Antwerp's old city center, a short distance from the Scheldt river. Originally built as a Dominican monastery church in the 16th century, it replaced an older church that was prone to flooding. Consecrated in 1571, the church is dedicated to St. Paul, the patron saint of the Dominicans. Throughout its history, St Paul's Church has faced periods of turmoil, including Calvinist destruction in 1578 and damage from fires and bombardments. However, it has been consistently restored and enriched, particularly with Baroque elements in the 17th century. Today, it is renowned for its stunning interior, which showcases paintings by Antwerp masters such as Rubens, Van Dyck, and Jordaens. The church also features elaborate Baroque altars, intricate woodwork, and a magnificent organ. Outside, visitors can explore the Calvary Garden, a unique ensemble of 63 life-size statues depicting scenes from the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus.
