Discover more about Duinbossen De Haan - Wenduine

The Duinbossen De Haan - Wenduine is a green jewel nestled along the Belgian coastline, stretching from Vosseslag to Wenduine. This protected nature area spans 152 hectares and encompasses diverse landscapes, including open dune expanses with typical coastal flora and fauna, and extensive wooded dunes. The forest is divided into three sections: the Duinbossen of Klemskerke, Vlissegem, and Wenduine. Visitors can explore marked trails, enjoy panoramic views from the Spioenkop observation point in Wenduine, and discover outdoor art in the Persepit. For families, there are play areas like Wonderbos and Slierberg, offering children opportunities to climb and explore. The Duinbossen also provide a habitat for unique inhabitants, such as the protected red wood ant. The dunes themselves were formed after the 11th century through significant sand drifts. To prevent the shifting sands from burying the rich agricultural lands, elm trees were planted in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Today, efforts are focused on creating a more diverse and natural forest by introducing native tree and shrub species.
