Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from Belize City, take the George Price Highway (Western Highway) towards Belmopan. After about 30 miles, turn onto the Philip Goldson Highway (Northern Highway) heading north. Continue for approximately 45 miles until you reach the village of Orange Walk. From Orange Walk, follow the signs to the Lamanai Archaeological Reserve, which is approximately 18 miles away. You will drive on the Belize River Road until you reach the water taxi point at the New River. Make sure to have cash for the water taxi.

• Public Transportation

  Start your journey by taking a bus from Belize City to Orange Walk. Buses frequently depart from the Belize City bus terminal, and the fare is typically around $5-10 BZD. Once you arrive in Orange Walk, you can either take a taxi or find a local tour operator that offers transportation to the Lamanai Archaeological Reserve. Expect to pay around $25-35 BZD for the taxi or tour service. If you choose a tour, ensure it includes the water taxi ride to the archaeological site.

• Water Taxi

  Once you reach the New River, you will need to take a water taxi to Lamanai. The water taxi ride takes about 30-40 minutes and typically costs around $30-50 BZD per person. This scenic ride will take you directly to the Lamanai Archaeological Reserve. Make sure to check the schedule for the last return trip, as the taxis may have limited hours.
