Getting There

  • Car

    From Sarteneja, head south on the main road towards the Belize City route. Drive approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes until you reach the junction with the Northern Highway (Hummingbird Highway). Take the left turn towards the Hummingbird Highway. Continue driving for about 45 minutes until you reach the town of Orange Walk. Keep following the signs towards Corozal. After passing through Orange Walk, continue straight for about 30 minutes until you reach the Corozal town. From Corozal, take the road leading to the Mexico border. You will cross into Mexico, and continue towards Bacalar, Quintana Roo. Follow the signs to Laguna de los 7 colores, which is located approximately 15 minutes from Bacalar town center. There are no toll roads along this route.

    From Sarteneja, catch a local bus heading towards Belize City. The bus will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach Belize City. Once in Belize City, transfer to a bus heading to Corozal. This leg of the journey will take about 45 minutes. Upon arrival in Corozal, you will need to take a bus to the Mexico border. After crossing the border, you can find buses or collectivos heading directly to Bacalar. Once in Bacalar, you can either walk or take a taxi to Laguna de los 7 colores, which is about 10-15 minutes away from the town center. Be sure to have your passport ready for the border crossing, and note that there may be a small fee for entry into Mexico.
