Getting There

• Car

  If you have a rental car, start your journey from The Cayes by driving to the mainland. You will need to take a ferry from Caye Caulker or Ambergris Caye to Belize City. Once in Belize City, head west on the George Price Highway (also known as the Western Highway) towards San Ignacio. After approximately 1.5 hours, keep an eye out for signs leading to San Jose Succotz. Turn off the highway at the junction and follow the road directly into the village. Xunantunich is located just across the river from San Jose Succotz, and you will need to park your car at the designated area near the river ferry. The ferry cost is about $5 BZD per person. After crossing the river, follow the signs to the archaeological site which is about a 10-minute walk uphill.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Xunantunich via public transportation, start from The Cayes by taking a water taxi to Belize City. Once you arrive in Belize City, look for a bus terminal where you can catch a bus heading to San Ignacio. The bus ride will take approximately 2 hours and cost around $15 BZD. Upon reaching San Ignacio, you can either take a local taxi to San Jose Succotz, which will cost around $15-20 BZD, or you can opt for a local bus to San Jose Succotz. After arriving in San Jose Succotz, follow the directions mentioned for car travel. You will need to take the ferry across the river, which costs about $5 BZD per person, and then walk to the ruins.
