Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from the Vaca Plateau area, first head towards the main road leading southwest. Follow the signs towards San Ignacio, which is located approximately 20 miles from Vaca Plateau. Once you reach San Ignacio, continue straight on the Western Highway (also known as the George Price Highway) until you see signs for San Jose Succotz. Take the exit toward San Jose Succotz and follow the road until you reach the village. From there, you will need to park your vehicle at a designated parking area. The entrance to Xunantunich is a short walk away from the parking area. Note that there is a small entrance fee to visit the ruins, typically around $10 BZD.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you can catch a bus from the main bus terminal in Vaca Plateau to San Ignacio. Buses run frequently and the journey typically takes about 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive in San Ignacio, look for local transport options such as a shared taxi or a local bus heading to San Jose Succotz. The fare for the taxi is usually around $5-10 BZD. After reaching San Jose Succotz, follow the signs to the ferry crossing, which will take you across the Mopan River. The ferry ride is inexpensive, typically costing about $2 BZD per person. Once across, you can follow the path leading to Xunantunich, which is approximately a 15-minute walk.
