Walking
From the center of Bumthang, head south towards the Jakar Dzong. As you walk, follow the main road, which is easily navigable. After about 15-20 minutes on foot, you will reach a fork in the road. Take the left path that leads towards the Kyichu Lhakhang. Keep an eye out for the signposts that guide you to the temple, as it is a popular tourist destination. You will pass by some local shops and traditional homes along the way, providing you an opportunity to experience the local culture.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Bumthang. Start from the main square and head towards the Jakar Dzong. Continue on the main road for approximately 2 kilometers until you reach the fork. Take the left path, which is suitable for cycling. The ride should take you around 10-15 minutes depending on your speed. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow local cycling rules for safety.
Hiking
For those looking for a more adventurous route, consider hiking from the outskirts of Bumthang. Begin at the local trail that leads towards the hills behind the town. This route offers a more scenic view of the valley and should take approximately 1 hour to reach Kyichu Lhakhang. Follow the trail markers and enjoy the surrounding nature. Once you reach the temple area, there will be signs directing you to the entrance.
