Getting There

• Car

  To reach Gangtey Monastery from Chhukha by car, start by heading north on the Phuentsholing - Thimphu Highway (NH2). Continue on this road for approximately 30 km until you reach the junction to Wangdue Phodrang. Turn left at the junction and follow the signs towards Gangtey Monastery. The drive will take about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. As you approach the Phobjikha Valley, keep an eye out for the monastery which is situated on a hilltop offering stunning views of the valley. • Public Transportation

  If you prefer public transportation, you can take a bus from Chhukha to Wangdue Phodrang. Buses run regularly from the main bus terminal in Chhukha. The journey takes about 2-3 hours. Once you arrive in Wangdue Phodrang, you can hire a taxi or take a local minibus towards Phobjikha Valley. The taxi fare to Gangtey Monastery should be negotiated beforehand, typically costing between 500-1000 Nu. The total travel time using public transport may take around 4-5 hours, including waiting times.

• Combination of Public Transport and Taxi

  Another option is to take a bus from Chhukha to Phobjikha Valley directly, if available. Check the local bus schedule for specific routes. Once you reach Phobjikha Valley, you will need to hire a taxi or walk to Gangtey Monastery, which is around 5-10 kilometers away from the main road. Again, taxi fares can range from 300-600 Nu. Be sure to confirm the fare before starting the journey.
