Car
If you are traveling by car from Eastern Bhutan, first head towards the town of Trashigang. From Trashigang, take the road to Samdrup Jongkhar. After reaching Samdrup Jongkhar, follow the signs to Phuentsholing. Once in Phuentsholing, you will need to take the road leading to Paro. The journey will take approximately 6-7 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. Upon reaching Paro, it is advisable to arrange for a local guide or trekking agency to assist with the Jomolhari trek, as the trailhead is located near the base of the mountain, approximately 15 kilometers from Paro town.
Public Transportation
For those using public transport, start your journey at the nearest bus station in your current location in Eastern Bhutan. Take a bus to Trashigang, then transfer to another bus heading to Samdrup Jongkhar. From Samdrup Jongkhar, board a bus to Phuentsholing. The bus ride from Trashigang to Samdrup Jongkhar typically costs around 300 BTN, while the ride from Samdrup Jongkhar to Phuentsholing will be approximately 200 BTN. Once you arrive in Phuentsholing, take a bus to Paro, which costs around 400 BTN. After reaching Paro, you should hire a local guide or trekking agency that can transport you to the Jomolhari trek starting point, which is roughly 15 kilometers from Paro town.
Trekking Agency
It is highly recommended to arrange your trek through a local trekking agency. These agencies provide transportation from Paro to the trek's starting point, which is crucial as public transport may not reach the trailhead directly. The cost of hiring a trekking agency usually includes transportation, meals, and a guide, and can range from 15,000 BTN to 25,000 BTN depending on the trek duration and services offered. Make sure to book in advance, especially during peak trekking season.
