Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey to Simtokha Dzong from the nearest major town, Thimphu. Head east from Thimphu on the Thimphu-Phuentsholing Highway (NH 2). After approximately 6 kilometers, take a left turn onto Je Bamo Lam SE. Simtokha Dzong will be located about 3 kilometers down this road on your left. There is ample parking available near the Dzong. Please note that the roads are narrow and winding, so drive carefully.
Public Transportation
For those using public transport, you can take a local bus from Thimphu to Semtokha. Buses depart regularly from the Thimphu bus terminal. The fare is approximately 50 Ngultrum (about $0.70). After reaching Semtokha, it is a short walk (about 15 minutes) to Simtokha Dzong. You can ask locals for directions, as the Dzong is a prominent landmark in the area.
Taxi
Alternatively, you can hire a taxi from Thimphu to Simtokha Dzong. The taxi fare should range between 300 to 500 Ngultrum (approximately $4 to $7), depending on your negotiation skills. The taxi ride will take around 15-20 minutes. Ensure that you confirm the fare before starting your journey.
