Getting There

Car
From Gasa, take the Gasa to Punakha road (Route 101). Drive for approximately 25 km until you reach the junction near the village of Khuruthang. Turn left onto the Phobjikha Valley road (Route 102) and continue for another 30 km. Follow the signs directing you to Gangtey Monastery. The total journey should take about 1 hour, depending on road conditions. Keep an eye out for local traffic, including yaks and pedestrians.

To reach Gangtey Monastery using public transportation, first head to the Gasa bus terminal and catch a bus heading towards Punakha. Inform the driver that you wish to get off at the Phobjikha Valley junction. This journey will take about 1 hour. Once you arrive at the junction, you will have to hire a local taxi or find a shared taxi to take you the remaining 30 km to Gangtey Monastery. The taxi fare should be around 500-800 BTN, depending on your negotiation skills.
